It was a very early start this morning, we had to be ready at the clubhouse by 7:00am so we could get to Leeuwarden and prepare and get ready for our 9:00am game.
Game 6: NZ v Brazil - Tournament Game 4
We were determined to beat Brazil. After a disappointing day yesterday, we wanted to make sure we came away with a win today. We started out strong, with a running in shot from Chelsea. We went on to take a 3-1 lead and were able to remain 2 points in front for the first quarter. In our second quarter we increased the margin to 3 points and ended the half with a comfortable 8-5 lead. In the second half Brazil came out strong and made some strategic substitutions making the job of holding onto the lead very difficult. There were times when we lost concentration, but we were able to maintain our two point lead for the majority of the second half. However, toward the end of the final stanza, we allowed Brazil back into the game. It was a very tense final few minutes, but we were able to finish the game with our first win of the tournament and we were all ecstatic.

Game 7: NZ v Netherlands RTC North - Tournament Game 5
After our exciting win this morning, it was difficult to get into the same motivated spirit for our game against RTC. This game was an automatic "win" despite the outcome on the scoreboard because RTC isn't an official team of the tournament. Also, we knew it was going to be another tough game, because although they are not players from the Netherlands National Team, they are still players from the Netherlands, who have been playing their whole lives and are very experienced and skilled. Rosa encouraged the team to focus on celebrating every achievement throughout the game, whether it be solid defence or a great shot.
However, we did not seem to have the energy or desire to step things up in this game, so at half time, we decided to try set ourselves something to aim for - yesterday against the Netherlands, having a target focus seemed to help us, so we thought we could try that again. We agreed to aim to score 15 total points and to keep them below 40 points. There were a few diamonds in the rough throughout the game, but most of the time, we struggled against the superior side.
1st Quarter Score: 10-4 to RTC
2nd Quarter Score: 22-7 to RTC
3rd Quarter Score: 31-8 to RTC
Final Score: 37-9 to RTC

Happy birthday sam!
Of course, we all sung Sam Coldicott Happy Birthday after our final game. Today is Sam's 18th Birthday! Little did he know, that this was not the only birthday celebration he would have today. After we were all done-and-dusted with the tournament, later that evening we all snuck back to Lammita and Nico's house for a Surprise Birthday Party.
