Juliet, Chelsea and Talesha, waiting patiently in the Dubai Airport.
After saying goodbye to family and friends at the Christchurch Airport, we started our journey. The first leg was a quick stop-over in Sydney. We really only had time to get off one plane, walk through transit and board another. Second leg was a long, but enjoyable flight from Sydney to Dubai. Movies were watched, games were played and some of us even got some sleep. We had a few hours to wait around in Dubai before our final flight to Amsterdam.
It was great to see some familiar faces at the Amsterdam airport to meet us! We met Boris's Grandparents, Youri's dad and of course, our esteemed Assistant Coach Manon, just to name a few.
Our last leg of travel involved a 1 hour (or so) train ride which took us from the Airport to Meppel. We managed to cram on, with all of our suitcases and bags filling the aisle! We gazed out the windows of the train and marvelled at the scenery. For some of us, the sights were very new and different, but for others, it was like returning "home." Then finally, after the very long day of travelling, we could say we had arrived. Our lovely Host Families met us at the train station and drove us to Nijeveen where we all met up at the Local DOS'46 Clubhouse. We were welcomed with food and drink and conversation. We were even able to watch a Korfball Semi-Final on Television!
The day ended with everyone going their separate ways with the Host Families and getting some much needed and well deserved sleep.
