Today was fully dedicated to one thing - THE DUTCH KORFBALL LEAGUE FINAL!!
The team got together at 11:00am to have a players only meeting to discuss the "where to from here" in terms of continuing on as a team as an U21 squad. It was a productive meeting and the minutes will be taken to KNZ for consideration.
From 12pm the doors to the TOP clubhouse opened and the fans started pouring in. It was a great atmosphere and the excitement for the game was building. There were so many buses for all the TOP fans to take to the game. We named our bus, Bus 5 - the "Kiwi Bus." As we drove away, we all waved to the players who were standing up on the room deck for the fans to see.
We travelled to the Ziggo Dome and everyone was so impressed with the size of the stadium and there were so many fans. We got there in time to see the U19 final - which featured one or two players from the Netherlands U19 team that our players competed against in the OEKC tournament!
The main event - the Final between TOP and Fortuna started at around 4:15pm. The pre-game entertainment for the game was fun to watch, but the highlight was definitely the singing, chanting, cheering of the stadium full of fans all getting ready for the big game. The atmosphere throughout the whole night was incredible and it was an experience we all will never forget. The game was an amazing display of Korfball skills and ball-play, it was so impressive. We celebrated with all the TOP fans when our sister-club won 20-24. After the game, some of the players took our flag down to the game floor and they met Daniel Harmzen (Korfball Icon playing for TOP - who played in his final game ever tonight as he is now retiring) and they got a close up with the Trophy.
We all then bused back to the TOP clubhouse and it was time to PARTY! The celebrations continued long into the night with everyone mixing and mingling and dancing and having a great time together. Everyone said goodbye to Rosa and Aylah too, as they were both leaving the team, very early in the morning so this was the chance to bid them farewell.
